The
remoteness of this stretch of the Zambezi River makes for excellent
angling opportunities for both the course angler and the fly fisherman.
Heading the list is the Tigerfish, famous for its fighting ability, with
specimens up to 10 kilograms taken in the area which benefits from its
proximity to Cahora Bassa Dam and the fish which migrate upstream from
this massive body of water.
Not to be overlooked are the numerous other angling species in the
Zambezi River system in particular Chessa, Nkupe,Tilapia (bream),
Bottlenose and Cornish Jack.
If interested in Extreme freshwater fishing, Vundu, the river monster
of the Zambezi is found in the area.
Fishing is mainly from boats but bank angling is also rewarding, sizable
Tigerfish have regularly been taken within meters of the Lodge and with
some 3 kilometers of river frontage the Lodge property itself offers
plenty of opportunity.
Boat
trips to the Lower Zambezi National Park and in particular the Mpata
Gorge or down stream to Cahora Bassa Dam (conditions permitting) will
place the angler on what are considered some of the finest fresh water
fishing locations in Africa.
The
Lodge has Bass boats which provide a good casting platform. Whilst most
enthusiasts bring their own equipment, tackle is available for hire. In
need please contact us for further advice on tackle to bring.
The fishing season is open from March until the end of November in
Zambia. For Tigerfish in particular experience has shown that the best
fishing takes place once the river clears in June with the peak months
being September through to November, when higher water temperatures
bring on a spurt of activity as the tiger's move into their spawning
season.
We practice catch and release with only injured fish or perhaps one
for the table being retained. |
