Zambia is well known as a
birding destination with over 740 species so far recorded. Of
these some 400 may be found in the Zambezi Valley.
Birding in the vicinity of
the Lodge is excellent, and there have been sightings of such sought
after species, such as the African (Angola) Pitta, Pel's Fishing Owl,
Peregrine Falcon and Bat Hawk.
The Lodge and its
surrounds provide a diverse range of habitat, ranging from riverine
forests, huge cliff faces, sand banks, reed beds and steep river banks
to tree clad gorges and rocky inlets in fast flowing water.
The Fish Eagle is ever
present, and there is always the possibility of a fantastic sighting of
a Fish Eagle hunting for its food. Peregrine Falcon's nest
in the cliffs directly opposite the Lodge, and can regular be heard and
occasionally seen as they dive down from dizzy heights on their prey.
Members of ZOS (Zambian
Ornithology Society) ticked over 180 birds during a three day stay at the Lodge. |
