GENERAL:
Zambia is acknowledged as one of the world's most peaceful countries,
and renowned for its friendly and helpful people.
LANGUAGE:
English is the official language and most Zambian people speak it
fluently.
CURRENCY:
The unit of currency is the Kwacha. However most lodges prefer to be
paid in hard currency such as US$ or Euros. Banks in Zambia as a rule do
not accept traveller’s cheques and acceptance of credit cards is limited
to the major cities.
HOW
TO GET TO LUSAKA: By air: The main flights from Europe to Lusaka
are British Airways from London and South African Airways via
Johannesburg, South Africa. Consult your travel agent for other
inter-continental flights direct to Lusaka.
By road:
Most borders are open from 06h00 to 18h00 with the exception of Victoria
Falls which closes at 20h00.
TRAVEL
DOCUMENTS: Guests are advised to check with their nearest Zambian
Consulate as the underneath is just a guide.
All
visitors are required to carry a passport that is valid for 6 months
beyond the intended length of stay. There should be sufficient blank
pages for any visa as well as for entry stamps upon arrival.
CLOTHING:
Light neutral colour clothing is recommended, with comfortable walking
shoes, a warm jacket for evenings and early mornings during winter
months and a wide brimmed hat. For water activities, nylon water
sandals are recommended.
ACCESSORIES:
Binoculars, sunscreen, insect repellent, sunglasses, a torch/flashlight
and spare batteries.
FUEL:
Fuel is readily available in all towns, but do carry extra fuel if
travelling to remote areas. There is a filling station at Luangwa Boma
and availability of both Petrol and Diesel is not a problem for
self-drive tourists and visitors to this area.
WATER:
Tap water is usually safe to drink, but bottled water can be purchased
if preferred. At the Lodge all water is treated and filtered and is
perfectly safe to drink.
HEALTH:
It is advisable to bring any medication that you may require and
consult your pharmacist or physician about malaria prophylaxis before
you enter Zambia.
PHOTOGRAPHY:
Outstanding photo opportunities abound. A good camera, and plenty of
film, if you do not possess a digital camera, will be well rewarded.
Ensure your equipment is in a dust proof bag/case.
CLIMATE:
There are 3 main seasons in Zambia: November to March - hot with
thunderstorms: April to July - dry warm days with cold nights and early
mornings: and August to October - warm to hot and dry. |
